About Martin Bale

Martin Bale

I joined the Midland Bank, now part of HSBC, after leaving school at 16. I had the privilege to be in banking at a time when customers were king.

My career spanned periods in Lincolnshire,Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Bedfordshire with my own branch, and Leicester where I ended my days as a lending manager in the Wellington House Area Office looking after two branches in the city.

In 1989 I had a golden opportunity to join my friend, Chris Canham, in his greengrocery  business, which became W.Pauley & Co Ltd, a family 24/7 fresh produce chilled distribution company.  At the time of joining him the turnover was under £1 Million and this grew over the next 14 years to £65 million. It was sold to Brake Bros with projected turnover of £72 million the following year.

During my time at W. Pauley & Co Ltd I held a HGV Class 1 licence, implemented ISO9000, managed the call centre, and during later years was used for special projects. My specialist areas were energy and waste saving plus telephone installation / management.

I retired and started my own businesses as an independent utilities specialist helping people and business to save money, giving hands on advice, because unless “YOU MONITOR IT YOU CAN NEITHER SAVE IT NOR MANAGE IT”.

I feel passionately that business owners and executives treat utilities as a serious cost to their business.
